A Pause in the Matrix

I'm coming down with yet another of my regular migraines and am unable to look at the computer screen for very long. As a result, my post for today is rather short.

I've several tasks that I would like to get completed in the near future, for my campaign.

1) Sand and apply a finish to at least one of the four 2'x2' laser-cut panels for my tabletop. I do have a cherry wood stain, but in thinking over its photographic qualities, I think this may be just too dark for taking photos of a game in progress. I just ordered a green wood stain/finish and I am going to test that on the back of one of the panels, to see how it turns out.  Plain wood is, blah, for photos, so this is something I really should sort out soonest.

2) Create generic counters from base, for play testing. I do have some miniatures of course, but they are based completely wrong for what I want to do and rather than go through the hassle of re-basing them, I think that using NATO symbols on red and blue painted bases will make things very easy. These will work for most any period. I may need to create a stencil for these.

3) Work on the terrain bases for the tabletop panels. I've much/most of the supplies I will need, but between having zero space to work in this past year, and now due to the very cold weather,  I'm going to have to turn my rather small kitchen into a crafting room. It is still possible that I am getting the use of my "spare room" back at the end of this month or early next month, but I'll need to spend some time changing it from a bedroom back to a game room/hobby room.

4) I've realized that I really could use a CNC machine for cutting wood. Between needing storage shelves for organizing my not-on-the-worktable hobby items. I've an organizer for what I have on that table, and I do use it, but for all the miniatures, models, etc., that can be re-organized, I've no storage beyond larger plastic bins. A good custom storage unit that I can place on the metal shelves I use would be quite handy.

5) For the campaign design, I am still working out some of the combat mechanisms, mainly trying to make sure that melee/hand to hand will be at least roughly balanced and then make sure that melee dominance to the equilibrium thence to ranged dominance will work or mostly work. I do need to make the adjustments to the die modifiers and save modifiers, change some of the terms to more accurately reflect their meaning, and then go through all of the special rules for units that can be purchased to enhance a unit. Luckily, I do not have to account for more than a perhaps two dozen unit types as the main factions all come from a common ancestor, a Roman-esque one. Of course there will be opponents not based on this commonality, but again, I do not have to provide an equivalent for every single unit type found in Hail Caesar, nor for Black Power (and ultimately Pike and Shot).

Ok, my eyes and head have had enough. Hopefully this one will end before too long.
